Undoubtedly his finest achievement, Finnart designed, built and funded the construction of the Royal Apartments for James V. He is said to have been wrongly accused of treason on a trumped up charge and was executed in 1542 before he was able to complete the interior. At the time of his execution James V was indebted to Finnart in relation to the completed building works.
